Vehicle Emission Deferral Request
What is a deferral request?
If your vehicle is registered in Utah but temporarily located outside of the state, you may request an emissions deferral to renew your vehicle registration. The Vehicle Emissions Deferral Request Form and required documents verifying the vehicle’s location is outside the state will assist the Health Department in processing your request.
Vehicles with emission requirements
If your vehicle is located in an area where emissions inspections are required you must obtain and include a copy of the Vehicle Emissions Certificate from that program along with the deferral request form.
Vehicles without emission requirements
If your vehicle's located in an area where emissions inspections are NOT required, you must provide a completed VIN Inspection Form as evidence that the vehicle’s located out of state. You will be asked to input a date that the vehicle will come back to Utah and receive an emissions test. The date must be before the next registration is due. An emissions test must be received before the next registration is default. You can use the following link to obtain a VIN Inspection form: Utah VIN Inspection Form
Military Service
If your vehicle is located outside of Utah because of Military service, you must upload a copy of your Active Miliary Orders indicating your requirement to be in your current location
